An Unconvincing Narrative
Steven Gould Occasionally Writes
Woww that was strange. I just wrote an extremely long comment
but after I clicled submit my comment didn’t show up.
Grrrr… well I’m noot writing all that over again. Anyhow, just
wanted to say woderful blog!
I must admit I love both the original Jumper & sequel, and this alternate movie version with Griffin as the protagonist. I certainly hope that we get to read more about griffin and his struggle against the paladins.
This book drew me in right from the beginning and left me wanting more at the end. I like how very clearly Griffin’s humanity shines through. When E.V. betrays him, his reaction to the loss of his first love describes the feeling in earnest. And including Spanish and French in the books really puts the whole scope of him going anywhere in the world into perspective. Bravo, sir.
I have to agree that Griffins story would make a good movie script, but then so would reflex. It’s interesting to read people’s comments on this site, Ryan, how would you have liked Kemp to die?? Griffin jumping in with a spinning back kick and strapping a grenade to Kemp’s gonads?? The draw of these books to me is realism of the characters, Griffin is a young man being hunted by people who have killed his parents, maybe in a movie he’d take down paladins like that, but on his own, against multiple opponents? – No this is a young man being placed in a position where he is forced to kill – and written brilliantly (and appropriately)
Would have been okay as a movie script. But it lacked the depth of Jumper & Reflex. It must have been rushed to publication because there were many more editing mistakes in this book than the other 2. The final encounter with Kemp was very anti-climactic.
I haven’t seen the movie yet. I wanted to read all the novels first. I really like the idea of the paladins and hope it was taken deeper with the movie.
I really think this could become a dynasty. You could tell so many great stories in the Jumper-verse. When did jumpers start appearing? When & how did the paladins come to exist?
Favourite book, read it like 9 times so far. Merry Christmas!
