Brain Activity

The Prodigal Blogger

November 12th, 2007 by Morgan J. Locke

Hello, dudes and dudessas. I’m back after an intense few weeks of report writing and an unexpected business trip. My greed post was, thus, totally useless, but I don’t feel like rehashing the past (so Steve, are we going to get to do a Seven Virtues post? Or perhaps Seven Wonders? 1.0 [ancient world] or 2.0 [modern day upgrade]?). I’ve been working on a pretty fun post regarding human space travel, but I’m too tired tonight to do it justice, so it’ll have to wait till rsn. I have a ton of links I could provide for you all, but discussing other sites’ content just doesn’t do it for me tonight. So I’m having a hard time figuring out what to talk about.

(Though, OK, I do have to share this one, which I found at Direct Neural Interface:

When Robot Programmers Get Bored

Keep those toes up, friend!)

I have been reading about a lot of different things that interest me, but I don’t necessarily have a lot to say about any of them (other than, say, “whoa!” or, “cool!” or “assholes!”). I have started work on a new thing-that-I-don’t-know-how-long-it’ll-be-but-I-hope-it’s-not-another-novel, and am formulating a short-short, which was solicited by someone (w00t!). I suppose I could talk about fall.

I love fall. Fall here in New Mexico is beautiful. Nights are cold (low forties, usually; sometimes colder) but days are absolutely perfect: clear skies; temperatures in the high sixties or low seventies; the trees are turning and the farms along the Bosque (the riparian strip along the Rio Grande) turn out their baskets and trays of harvested fruits and vegetables. Winters are (typically) fairly mild, so there is not that feeling of dread (how bad will it get?). Sweaters during the breezy cool days, and the reading of good books in the quickening night, with a blanket thrown over your shoulders to keep out the chill and the dog at your feet, are the order of the day.

I am content.
