This song isn’t new and it isn’t obscure, but you might have missed it if you don’t listen to much C&W.
It struck me just the right way when it came on the radio while I was driving one of the Ag Program’s SUV’s to campus this morning.
It’s vicious and it rocks. It’s Carrie Underwood’s ‘Before He Cheats’:

LDA — Good vids! I hadn’t seen either. I haven’t listened to much Garbage, will make more effort to do so. I’ve always kinda sneakily liked Xtina, both because she’s such a babe, and because the rumor is that she can actually sing, as opposed to all the Britneys and Jessicas and Ashlees out there.
I also like this kinda song, and have always liked that kind of woman — the one who just doesn’t suffer abuse gracefully. It’s a classic southern female trope, the gorgeous, earthy hottie who will fuck you up if you go too far over the line.

I’m there with you, Rory… But they don’t have to be from the south. Just hard rockers who have the ‘tude. To list a few off the top of my head–and in no particular order–, Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos, Bjork, Ferron, Gretchen Wilson, Pat Benatar, Annie Lennox…
P.S. Garbage’s “Version 2.0″ is one of their best albums.

Oops. This one got caught in our spam trap, probably because of the multiple URLs. I just rescued it.
Both Britney and Shania are just plastic ‘product’. Shania seems much brighter and totally aware of that. I remember wincing when reading an interview with her proclaiming that she was puzzled about being a sex symbol, since she was so busy and tired that she had no sex drive. Deliberate self-destruction of one of her big marketing assets. And it couldn’t have done much for her husband/producer/guru, Mutt Lange.
Ack. I’m doing celebrity comment, about the personal lives of phony people I’ve never met. I’m ashamed.
