On this day in 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was adopted. For those of us who don’t associate the numbers with the action, it was the abolishment of slavery.

So Andrew Jackson is on the US twenty dollar bill, hopefully for things other than being a slave trader, a major pusher of the Spoils System for rewarding political cronies, and one of the major architects of the Trail of Tears. Probably it was that President thing or being male or both. Could’ve been worse. We could’ve been a country that was orignally settled by criminals and the like. Probably end up with Al Capone on the twenty dollar bill.
Wait a minute! Australia was initially settled by criminals. Let’s see who they put on their Twenty-Dollar Bill. Oh, look, it’s two for the price of one!
